Skincare Diary: My Personal Journey to Radiant, Confident Skin

Skincare is more than just a routine. It's a ritual of self-love, a quiet time to reconnect with yourself. For me, skincare became a healing process—not just for my skin, but also for my self-esteem. I didn’t always have glowing skin, and I didn’t always feel confident about how I looked without makeup. But through trial, error, tears, and joyful little wins, I found what works for me. And I’d love to share it with you.

My Skin Type & Struggles

I have combination skin—oily around the T-zone and dry around the cheeks. Growing up, I dealt with hormonal acne and stubborn texture. There were moments where I tried every product that promised a "miracle," but most only irritated my skin or made it worse. My biggest mistake? Believing more = better. Harsh scrubs, alcohol-based toners, over-exfoliating—I’ve done it all.

The Turning Point

One day, I decided to simplify. I paused all the trendy products and started listening to my skin. That’s when everything changed. Instead of fighting my skin, I began nurturing it. I introduced ingredients slowly, researched the science behind them, and observed how my skin responded.

My Morning Routine

My current morning skincare is focused on hydration, protection, and glow. Here’s what I use and why:

  1. Gentle Cleanser: I love using a low pH, non-stripping cleanser that keeps my skin barrier happy.
  2. Hydrating Toner: I layer it with my fingers (not a cotton pad!) to deeply hydrate.
  3. Vitamin C Serum: This brightens my skin and helps fade old acne marks. I saw results after 3 consistent weeks.
  4. Light Moisturizer: Gel-based in summer, creamy in winter. I avoid heavy fragrances.
  5. Sunscreen (Always!): This was my biggest game-changer. No matter the weather, I wear SPF 50 daily. It made my skin tone more even and protected all my efforts.

My Evening Routine

Evening is when I treat and repair. Here’s what helps my skin recover:

  • Double Cleanse: First oil cleanser to melt sunscreen and makeup, then my gentle cleanser.
  • Niacinamide Serum: This helped reduce the oiliness around my nose and faded small breakouts.
  • Occasional Exfoliant: I use a BHA toner twice a week only. Over-exfoliating once ruined my barrier, so now I’m gentle.
  • Barrier Repair Moisturizer: I use a rich, ceramide-based cream. My skin wakes up plump and soft.
  • Spot Treatment: For the occasional pimple, I dab a tiny amount of salicylic acid or tea tree oil.

Ingredients That Changed My Skin

  • Niacinamide – balanced oil, faded dark spots, calmed redness
  • Centella Asiatica – soothed inflammation and healed sensitivity
  • Hyaluronic Acid – kept my skin hydrated and plump all day
  • Vitamin C – brightened my skin over time (must use SPF with it!)
  • Retinol (later) – I introduced this slowly for fine texture and bumps

Skincare Lessons I Learned

Here are a few truths I discovered along the way:

  • Your skin doesn’t need 10 steps – it needs consistency and care
  • Fragrance-free is best for sensitive or acne-prone skin
  • Patch test everything—your skin will thank you
  • Sunscreen is skincare – nothing works if your skin isn’t protected
  • Skincare is personal – what works for someone else might not work for you, and that’s okay

My Current Favorite Products

  • Cleansing Oil: Heimish All Clean Balm
  • Hydrating Toner: Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Toner
  • Vitamin C Serum: La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C10
  • Niacinamide: The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide + Zinc
  • Sunscreen: Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50+
  • Moisturizer: CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

Final Thoughts

Skincare taught me patience, discipline, and self-love. I still get the occasional breakout or dry patch—but now I don’t panic. I respond with kindness and care. That’s the biggest glow-up of all.

If you’re struggling with your skin, know this: it’s okay. You’re not alone. Start simple, be gentle, and give your skin what it needs, not what’s trending. Your skin is your story—it deserves softness, time, and love.

Here’s to skin that feels as good as it glows ✨
